French Toast

Have on hand 1 loaf french bread. This is great for brunch especially because it can be prepared the night before."
Ingredients
1c. brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
2TBsp. corn syrup
3 tart apples, peeled and sliced
5 eggs
1&1/2 c.milk
1 tsp. vanilla
grated nutmeg
Spicy Apple Syrup:
1c. applesauce
1(10oz) jar apple jelly
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
dash of salt
Instructions
Cook sugar, butter and corn syrup until melted. Pour into a 9x13 inch baking dish that has been sprayed with Pam so no sticking occurs. Spread apple slices over this mixture. Slice bread into 3/4 inch slices and place on top of apple slices. Whip together remaining ingredients and pour over bread. Sprinkle with grated nutmeg Cover and refrigerate overnight. Bake, uncovered, for 40 minutes at 350°F.
Syrup: Combine all ingredients until melted and serve warm over French toast.
