Everyone loves a nice, cold glass of iced tea on a hot day. It’s an ideal summer refreshment and has a host of health benefits. There’s a misconception that hot tea is better for you, but in reality, as long as your iced tea was made hot and then chilled, it should have all of the same health benefits.
Many types of teas are filled with antioxidants. You can even increase the amount of antioxidants by flavoring your tea with lemon or lime. Antioxidants help to eliminate free radicals from your body that can damage your DNA and cause cancer. Luckily for us, tea doesn't limit its benefits to any specific cancer.
Tea also enhances your immune system, protecting your teeth from plaque and acting as a natural antibiotic. Some experts even recommend tea to aid in weight loss!
For those of you who want to celebrate with a fresh homemade iced tea, here’s a great recipe:
Hibiscus-Pomegranate Iced Tea - adapted from EatingWell
1/4 cup loose hibiscus tea or 12 hibiscus herbal tea bags
4 cups boiling water
1 cups pomegranate juice
4 cups cold water
Lemon wedges for garnish
Steep hibiscus tea in boiling water for 3-5 minutes.
Strain the tea and pour into a large pitcher.
Add pomegranate juice and cold water.
Refrigerate for about 2 hours.
Add lemon wedge for garnish.
