Right around this time of year, there’s lots of talk about making a list and checking it twice. When it comes to holiday baking, this is especially wise advice. Before you preheat the oven, add these ingredients to your shopping list, and you’ll be ready for almost any recipe that catches your eye during this busy baking season.
Holiday Pantry Essentials
See detailed lists for extracts, sugars, spices, dried fruits and nuts.
- All-Purpose Flour
- Eggs (most recipes call for large)
- Butter (most recipes call for unsalted)
- Milk
- Molasses
- Baking Powder
- Baking Soda
- Chocolate Chips
- Corn Syrup or Brown Rice Syrup
Extracts (always look for pure ones when possible)
- Vanilla extract
- Almond extract
- Peppermint extract
- Lemon extract
Sugars
- Granulated sugar
- Brown sugar, light and dark
- Confectioners’ sugar
- Coarse sugar (like sugar in the raw)
- Colored decorating sugars sprinkles
Spices
- Cinnamon
- Cloves
- Ground Ginger
- Allspice
- Nutmeg
Dried Fruits & Nuts
- Pecans
- Walnuts
- Almonds
- Raisins
- Cranberries
- Cherries
