Now that your baby is truly emerging as a crawling-and-talking little person, you’re naturally curious about when he or she can eat certain foods. Cheese is a standard in most nursery foods out there: mac and cheese, broccoli and cheese, cheese sticks… you get the point. But remember – baby needs to walk before she can run. It’s recommended that you avoid feeding your baby cheese before six months. You will also want to make sure to talk to your doctor first if you suspect your baby might have a milk allergy.
Six months, as well. You might be wondering why it is safe to give your baby yogurt and cheese before you can give him milk (one year!). This is because yogurt and cheese are easier for your baby to digest as they contain a lower amount of lactose than milk.
It’ll be 12 months until it is recommended to introduce your baby to the popular breakfast food. Because eggs have the highest risk factor for allergies, it’s best to wait. However, you can introduce egg yolk to your baby at nine months. Your little one might not be accustomed to the taste, as it is different from anything he or she has eaten before, but easing into it is always key. If your baby rejects the dish, wait a few more months before trying again.
You can mash up cereal with formula or breast milk at age four to six months. Over time, add less of the liquid and watch closely how your baby seems to be dealing with the cereal bits. At six to eight months, your baby can start eating oat-based cereal. After a year, your baby should be ready to eat milk and cereal, like older children.
