Cuisinart & Family

by: Vivian Manning-Schaffel

Being of Armenian descent, I grew up eating lots of food that none of my other friends had for dinner. At the time it made me feel like the odd kid out, but since then, many of the dishes I grew up eating have been mainstreamed into the American pantry.

Take hummus, for example. My mom's hummus recipe also makes for a healthy, protein-packed snack for kids over the age of one. Kids love to dip things, so serve up your hummus with small pieces of pita, on a mini-bagel as a sandwich, or with crisp medium size chips.

One question remains: Just what the heck is hummus made of anyway? By Arabic definition, Hummus means chickpea, aka the garbanzo or cece bean. And with the basic ingredients and your handy Cuisinart PowerPrep Plus 14 Cup Food Processor, this tasty, healthy, anytime treat can be at your fingertips.

GROWN-UP HUMMUS:
Hummus is also an easy-to-make party dip for those nights you get to  spend in the company of your peers. Give it a kick by topping it with chopped parsley, a dash of cumin, and a dash of paprika.
