Summertime brings tropical visions of palm trees and the
delicious fruity treats that grow plentifully in their presence. If your pediatrician approves, mangos are a
tasty tropical fruit that can safely be offered to your baby between seven and
ten months of age.

Packed with vitamins A, C & D, mangos have a higher level of carotenoids than
almost any other fruit; carotenoids are free-radical scavengers that are said
to ward off colds, and reduce the risk of cancer as well as heart disease. Low
in fat and calories but loaded with fiber, mango is a wonder-fruit to be
enjoyed by adults and kids alike.
How to shop for a
mango
A fresh mango should feel soft and plump, measuring at least
5 inches in diameter. To choose a ripe mango, look for an orangey yellow or red
color with the fewest black spots, which indicates bruising.
If you want to wait a few days before serving, buy a firmer,
partially green mango, and ripen uncovered at room temperature out of direct
sunlight.
